TODDLER DEVELOPMENT TEMPLATE 12.5% of Final Grade NAME: Gurleen Kaur DATE: 19 October 2021 TOPIC: Toddler Development For the following template describe PLAY experience that would be appropriate for a TODDLER 24 months to explore, play or engage with. Provide examples of the relevant skills and learning that the experience can support the toddler across the four domains of development. Information can be presented in bullet form. Please ensure the material is not teach-directed but rather child discovery. Age Group Toddler Description Identify for all four domains the types of skills and learning that can be supported by the identified learning experience. Identified skills must be appropriate to the potential development the material or experience can support with details on how they are supported 24 months Material/Activity: The activity which is appropriate according to me for toddlers (24 Months) is Container and Lid Play. Requirements: Various containers, and their lids (having different colours and shapes). Activity: Provide children with 5-6 containers and ask them to put the lids on the containers or just give them the containers and remove the lids for free play. This activity will help children to develop the control and coordination of their vision and body. Physical: This play would help children to improve their fine and gross motor skills. For Example: When children will try to put the lids on the container or remove it, it would ultimately help to develop fine motor skills. Gross Motor skill will be improved when they stand or twist their body to stack the containers. It will improve their standing balance as well. Cognitive: Container and Lid play also help to develop cognitive skills. For Example: When children put the lids on the containers by observing various sizes, they understand the control and coordination between their vision and body movement. Also, they might use alternate methods to play with containers and lids which will help them to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Children can also learn creativity as some children may
Moreover, at this age children starts growing at a faster pace and various activities like this would help them to develop their sensory motor skills. It is not necessary that children only use the container to put the lids on it. They might stack the containers or pretend to eat or drink some thing from container or try to put material nearby them in the container. Presentation Strategy: As an Early Childhood Educator, I would like to help children by following ways: I will allow them to play freely so that they can use their own way to play with the containers to that to develop their imagination and creativity. Moreover, when children play with different shapes, I will tell them the names of the shapes and colours of the lids in order to develop their language skills. I myself will involve in the game to guide them how to properly play it as children imitate their elders. pretend to eat or drink from the containers. Social/ Emotional: By participating in this activity, children learn social and emotional skills as well. For Instance: When children cooperate with each other to put the lids on the containers they tend to learn some social skills. It also helps children to learn self regulation. As while playing they pay attention towards the play and take interest in it which will help to develop self regulation. Language: Children develop receptive and expressive language skills by loose part play. For Example: When children play in group, they represent their ideas to each other in one or another way which help to enhance language skills. When they play with different coloured and shaped containers and lids, they would be able to learn and pronounce the colours and various shapes.
